Swift Boats

Filed under: Military — Bunker @ 1:38 pm

I would say that this deserves at least as much attention as the fake ANG documents and Draft email:

The report in question described a mission of five swift boats ambushed by a mine explosion that seriously damaged one boat while the swift boats received heavy fire from both banks. The fire continued for three miles, the report said. Roy Hoffman, the admiral who commanded the swift boats in Vietnam, finds that detail alone absurd. Hoffman, a member of the anti-Kerry swift boat veterans group, says: “There was never an incident under my command in all of Vietnam where my boats were engaged by continuous fire from both banks of a half mile in length, much less three.”

Somehow I doubt Dan Rather, or anyone else in television news will give it a second glance. A commenter once mentioned “It’s in the official reports,” and I asked who wrote them.

I guess we now know.

  1. Anyone who has a question in their mind about the “character” of John Kerry, needs to read the book, “Unfit for Command”. It is well documented, and very telling, in the respect that it shows the man has NO CHARACTER! The lefties might excuse his vacillation & cowardice by suggesting that he has “abandonment issues” which makes him attempt to be “more than he envisions himself because at a young age he was put into boarding school”! Balderdash! You either have the CHARACTER to overcome what life hands you, or you don’t! He obviously doesn’t.

  2. Pretty funny post, I’ve not read the full book but every excerpt I have read I have had to spend no more than 1/2 hour disproving the assertion.

  3. You know me…. I’ll listen to any facts regarding the assertions, proving or disproving. So far I’ve seen nothing to disprove anything the Swifties have said.

  4. Bunker I read the records the Navy has disseminated. I am waaaaaayyyyy more inclined to believe the official accounts, written by some clerk, than the memories of a guy 35 years removed from the fact. Hell I challenge you to remember exactly what you ate for lunch on Wed 22 Sept, 2004 , what time lunch began, and when it ended in detail. Oh yes you also need to remember every snippet of conversation you may have had during said lunch, and get the person/people to corroborate one hundred percent. Don’t be surprised though if you can’t, then ask yourself if any group of people can remember with clarity, the events of 35 years ago. So we rely on the “official” records.

  5. Bubba, the point of the article I linked to is that Kerry wrote the official report you’ve been reading. The others on-scene don’t recall the encounter at all the way the report says. “Some clerk” is Kerry, according to this.

  6. Uhhh where do you see Kerry’s initial on those reports??? I have read them, never saw Kerry’s name, or initials anywhere on the papaerwork. If he dictated them and someone else typed them there is a protocol for that. For instance if I dictate a letter to my wife my initials appear in caps to the left of a slash, hers in lower case to the right of a slash, like this: AVB/msb. NOWHERE, and I mean absolutely nowhere do the initials JFK or the name John F Kerry appear on ANY document released by the United States Navy. So suddenly the US Navy is a liar?? Then every branch of the military lied about Vietnam, and your medals, like his, are worthless. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

  7. Bubba, take the time to read the article I linked. Kerry’s initials are, in fact, there. They are based in the document’s sequence number.

By the way, my point in all this is that MSM refuses to even consider this issue when they were all over the Bush ANG information. Bush has released, via SF180, all his records, including medical. Kerry refuses to do so, and they aren’t interested in pressing that point, either.
