Why didn’t I think of that?

Filed under: Politics — Bunker @ 7:20 pm

This one will make you slap your forehead.

As I was reading through some other blogs this evening, I heard some of O’Reilly’s program in the background. I didn’t pay a lot of attention but heard the gist of it all. O’Reilly was interviewing a retired general who supports Kerry. Apparently this is the same man who “worked for Ronald Reagan” that the Democrats like to bring out to build some credibility for the cause. The man made a statement to the effect that Dubya screwed up in Iraq because he didn’t serve in Vietnam, and didn’t know what he was doing. Kerry, on the other hand, did serve in Vietnam. Therefore, Kerry would have done things right.

Let me repeat that so it sinks in.

Because Kerry served in Vietnam 35 years ago, he would have handled Iraq much better than Bush has. Bush, as you know, didn’t serve in Vietnam.

By the way, did you know Kerry is a Vietnam veteran?

  1. My fucking dog could have handled Iraq better than both presidential candidates, not to mention a good portion of the population of this little planet I like to call “EARTH” could do a better job as well.

  2. If one’s dog is busy “fucking” how on EARTH would he/she have time to handle a world crisis. Please explain.

  3. In this case the word was used as an adjective, not an ad-verb, but given the lack of writing skills our education system allows these days I should not be surprised.

  4. Bubba, please explain how the use of “fucking” in “my fucking dog” as in “my dog who is fucking” is an adverb. I simply can’t see that.

  5. I’ve been trying to remember if I have ever used flight-line language on my site at any time. I don’t believe I have. I would be appreciative if visitors also refrained.

  6. Hey Bunker, now I may be wrong…But didn’t you claim that all of the records pertaining to Mr. Bush’s military service had been released already?

Cause it looks like the Pentagon has released more…I wonder how that happened?

Me personally, I would trust Kerry over Bush any day because he is not a chickenhawk. He knows firsthand the human cost of War, Bush does not.

  7. Gee, curveball. How did those records become public. Perhaps Bush released them? Perhaps your man would be willing to do the same. He must have some pretty nasty skeletons. Why else would he not do so?

Actually, Bush knows more about war firsthand than Kerry. Bush has felt the weight of 1000 deaths. Did Kerry lose any of his men in four months, or is he simply feeling badly about shooting a wounded man in the back?

  8. Bunker, sorry about the foul mouth. Bubba doesn’t seem to know an adverb from a hole in the ground, though, and since that’s my arena…

  9. So let me get this straight, Bubba’s “dog that is fucking” could have “handled” the war in Iraq better if this correct maybe we should elect your dog as president. What ticket will he/she run under?

What about Afghanistan? Have we forgot about it? I haven’t. I don’t hear anyone talking about how “Bush doesn’t know what he is doing there”.

Budda and Curveball let me give a little history lesson: over 1000 service members were killed a month in Vietnam. We have been fighting this war in Iraq for over a year now. To lose only 1000 in over a year is quite outstanding.

Finally, all this I hear about deploying the Reserves and the National Guard, you can only thank President Clinton, for “firing” over 1,000,000 service members.

  10. Birdie, don’t think you’re too old for Pop to wash your mouth out with soap!

  11. I just quoted the saying, that’s all. If I were to even think that word, Mrs. Birdie would beat the crap out of me.

  12. Bunker, sorry for the language, but I was trying to convey how frustrated I am with both of these candidates. I still think Iraq was the wrong move, nothing strategic there that south east Turkey doesn’t offer, except for the OIL. We should never allowed the Brits to break up the Ottoman empire after WW I. The Ottomans ran the entire region for 800 years and they ran a “tight-ship”, would that the Ottoman Empire had chosen to be on the “winning-side”

  13. No sweat on the language, I just want to maintain civil discourse here. I am interested in people’s views and those get shoved aside once the language deteriorates.

The strategic importance is several layers thick, and not entirely obvious to most people. I’ve spent years studying and teaching such things–for real. In fact, my reasons for starting this blog include, near the top of the list, an explanation for people without my background why some things are happening the way they are. Wretchard does a good job of this, as did SDB. I simply wanted to provide a different perspective that the ones they have.

To that end, I’ve tried to maintain my “Terrorism Essentials” page to give readers access to many sources of information they might not normally see. My intent was to stay abreast of such things, and help readers through some of the muddy waters as I could. Unfortunately, this contentious election cycle draws all of us into its maelstrom.

I understand your frustration. I am seriously considering some activity with the Constitution Party or starting up a 527 of my own do try and effect some change. It has to begin at the local level, so railing against the national election serves little purpose except to get us all mad at one another.

Bubba, I always welcome you, and others of like mind. I try to keep some sites linked that you would agree with so that I get a full picture of things. Check Daily Howler and Harry’s Place. Michael J. Totten and Roger Simon are both Democrats supporting Bush this year for a single reason. You might, too.

  14. So tell me Bunker. Am I correct in my thinking the while I am a bit left of center you are a bit to the right of center, and while we differ, we understand that there is room for compromise on our views? If two ex-Air Force weenies like us can understand such a simple concept, why can’t the politicians we “hire”??

Comment by Bubba Bo Bob Brain — September 9, 2004 @ 10:19 pm

  15. They don’t want to. That’s the biggest frustration I have with the Democrats at this point. Bush, as he did in Texas, reached across to unite. They slapped his hand.

  16. Well as I understand Molly Ivins, he was slapped because he allowed his “minions” on the republican side of the aisle to do his dirty work. I barely liked his father, but I must say I always thought highly of Poppy’s intelligence, he seemed a bit detached, but he did not come across as an intellectual light-weight. Dubya is probably dyslexic, but I do not hold that against him, what I loathe about him is his seeming intellectual incuriousity, and his B.S. “populist” act, he is no more a “populist than Kerry is. Any one that is Andover/Yale/Skull&Bones/ Harvard, is a damned sight distant from being a “populist”. Hell if I wanted a president I could have a beer with I’d try to clone Grant, as is I want a president to be smarter than you and me, and Dubya does not come across that way. Kerry comes across as a bit of the smarmy nerd, which is a personality trait I am not fond of either.
