What is it that some people just don’t grasp about the danger posed by Islamicists, Wahabis in particular. John understands.
I believe we massively underestimate the threat to our way of life. Two well-timed and well-placed nuclear detonations, with warheads not much larger than the ones that were routinely placed on artillery shells in the Cold War, could easily kill the president and the six people in line to succeed him, all of Congress, the Supreme Court, the FBI and the Department of the Treasury. The dollar might well become worthless, as might everything denoted in dollars. The world’s stock markets would plunge, and the value of everything in the world would plummet.
Nuance and diplomacy only work if you choose to ignore the fact that they don’t.
Thanks for the link, Bunker!

It is very well written and thought out.

Well I didn’t read it thoroughly, but I caught the paragraph about dictators, and the one about humiliation. You think they might be humiliated because WE as a nation have propped up many of the thuggish dictators in our anti-communist efforts?? I have mentioned this before, but as a ten year old I instinctivly understood communism as preached by Lenin was doomed to failure, so why did we go about pissing off the entire Arab world inorder to defeat that which was inevitably doomed anyway?? Think that might have anything to do with why “they” are humiliated, and pissed off??

Dear Bubba No Brain,
the Arabs, by realizing that civilization has passed them by, have pissed themselves off

Hey Wallace, nice ad-hominem attack wtih which you opened your response, therefore: YOU FORFIET THE ARGUMENT!!. I should expect nothing less from a closed minded troll. Unlike this alleged “president” I did not go AWOL, and border on desertion. I served my six years… well five years, eleven months, seven days, and three hours, and forty-two minutes before the US Air Force and I went our seperate ways. I am still proud of my service even though I was essentially “fired”, but that is a story for another time and thread, and one only Bunker would probably understand.

Now, now, children… let’s be civil. Discourse not debate and attack.
We can go on and on about who we supported and why. It is the very reason I deplore Diplomacy. That’s what you get. For forty years, Presidents from both major parties wrestled with how to handle Communist aggression. And it was certainly that. In fact, it was different from what we face today only in the weapons available and willingness to commit suicide.
Our failures do not connect to their hatred except for this insane belief that Israel is behind all evil in the world. The concept of Jerusalem being holy to Muslims comes only from their conquering that city after Mohammed’s death, and wanting some hook for retaining it. It is symptomatic of the entire basis for this current conflict.
