Summer Blog

Filed under: General Rants — Bunker @ 11:44 am

I really don’t know what to think of this blog stuff. Strange things happen, and I really don’t understand them. In particular, I’ve been pondering the visits to this site and what they really are.

Fo a long time I received about 100 visits per day. In the last month or two, I’ve been getting about 200. The odd thing is that the number of comments decreased. That seems a bit out of sorts. Especially when I’ve written some very inflammatory things where I expected someone to try and blast me out of the water.

I can’t decide whether people simply ignore me as some kind of idiot who couldn’t possibly believe the things I write, or as a prescient super-thinker who has all the answers (my personal view).

No, I’m not trolling for praise or abuse. I’m simply curious if this is common with other sites this time of year…a lot of people looking, but nobody buying. Several bloggers I know are in a kind of writer’s funk right now. Perhaps it’s the same thing in commenting. Most of us are sick of politics right now, but I cannot even bring myself to opine on the Olympics. Nor on the fact Slice has made his journey (via a Griswald-like European tour) from Afghanistan to Rota.

Any thoughts on this out there?

  1. I can’t answer those questions, save one: Your blog is worth reading, period. I stop by every time you post– and sometimes when you don’t, to reread what you have to say.

    Gets me to thinking.

I don’t get many comments for some reason, but I do get emails. I wonder why that is?

In any case, your take on things is a good one. I suspect the blog will be a daily stop for a lot more people.

    Onwards old boy, onwards!

  2. I appreciate that. I’m just curious about the inverse proportion of visits to comments. Seems very odd to me.

  3. Perhaps everyone else is traveling the world, too. It is difficult to post when you’re on a time restriction on hotel computers at 5 Euros for 30 minutes (no wonder it takes 20-something countries to equal our economy).

  5. you are getting more readers because you’re putting out good work.

comments are funny. only a small proportion of visitors comment, and some have specific agendas and only comment on those items. as your blog interests move around they come and go. someone needs to plan his social science thesis on this.

  6. I’ve just recently discovered the world of bogging. And more recently your blog. I agree with AH & rammer. I enjoy what you write & it gets me thinking.

I’m finding that with the current state of the world, the upcoming election and that I’m trying to start a family, it’s imperative that I seek out information that is coming from real people with real experiences, not just some talking head.

    Keep it up! 🙂

  7. Lorie, that’s exactly what I want to do is get people to think. I don’t care if you agree or not, but I hope to look at things from a perspective others don’t.

And beware…the blogosphere can be addictive.
