Sandy Berger is a liar and a thief, at the very least.
I waited to comment on this issue because I’ve been mulling it over in my mind. Of course, Democrats are already out in force talking about “timing” and “partisan politics” as if they knew nothing of such things. What I have to say will probably be condemned as such, even though I will simply point out fact. Because fact indicts a member of the Democratic Party and National Security Advisor to the current Democratic candidate for the Presidency, it does not automatically imply partisanship.
I have spent a great deal of time in both the National Archives and the Library of Congress Manuscript Division doing research. I understand procedures in the open areas. The classified areas have even more stringent controls. When you enter you are asked to leave all your folders, cases, and bags at the main entry. The US Government provides pencils and paper for you to take notes. You are not allowed to bring in your own. When you seat yourself at a table, you fill out a form requesting specific boxes of records. If you know what you are looking for, it is relatively easy. Otherwise, you go through a series until you locate what you need. You are welcome to take notes, although this would not be allowed in any classified area I’m familiar with.
When you depart, you pick up your belongings at the front desk area. The attendant checks your papers to be sure you haven’t “inadvertantly” included anything which belongs to the Government, and the people of the United States.
You walk into the reading area with nothing, and leave with nothing more than notes written on paper provided. In a classified area, you leave with nothing. Period.
Okay. Tell me where calling Berger a liar and a thief is partisan.
It’s not partisan at all. But you know, the closer we get to November, the more scared I get that everything is going to be denounced as a “plot”. I’m actually really scared about finding Osama bin Ladin, because you know that if he were found, the nutjobs would be all over the place saying that Bush just trotted him out to get reelected. I’m so afraid of even GOOD news for President Bush, because of the way it can be turned around on him…

They’ve already been preparing for this eventuality during the last year. I’ve seen numerous postings and comments where someone warns that Bush already has bin Laden and is simply waiting for the right time to trot him out. If it happens, someone will definitely say, “See…I told you so.”

The Administration has already found Sandy Berger….I can only imagine what the uproar would be if OBL were found!

Oh come on, get off your high horse. Haven’t you ever spaced out and walked off the course with someone else’s set of clubs? I have a trunk full of ’em. I don’t know where they came from – I guess I just got distracted or something and accidentally took someeone else’s golf bag by mistake. In fact, I’m not entirely sure it’s my car, either. But that’s beside the point…

I don’t know what to think about this thing. Everyone is blogging about it, so I suppose I will eventually. It’s just too unbelievably and obviously stupid for words. Stuffing classified documents in his pants?

The reason there are people calling the “timing” suspicious is because this is a ten month old investigation. Ten months ago and we hear about it only now during the week the 9-11 commission is releasing its report??? C’mon Bunker use those critical thinking skills I know you posess.

Timing could be an issue, but it isn’t the issue of this post. It is simply the same thing always trotted out to divert attention from the real issue.
But I’m amazed anything in Washington took this long to leak. And what difference does it make, anyway? That is my precise issue. The man is a liar and a thief, and needs to be treated as such. Politics has no place intruding in the issue. I know, I know…he said he’s sorry. So, we shouldn’t prosecute. Personally, I’m sick of this mentality in DC that “our betters” can do anything as long as they apologize.
Larry, I have to say you may have a point. I was wondering where that 1-iron in my bag came from. Perhaps I inadvertantly picked it up the last time I was at the Archives! You never know.
