Cults

Thomas Lifson has a thought-provoking article on The American Thinker:

The frenzy of the left continues to unfold before our very eyes.

I’ve been thinking about this phenomenon a bit today. The NYPD is gearing up to handle the folks who are gearing up to disrupt the RNC Convention. Boston doesn’t have the same problem based on what I’ve read and heard. The crowds New York’s Finest will face include some of the same people who destroyed some of downtown Seattle several years ago protesting a WTO meeting.

I think “cult” describes them quite well. This is a religion to them. It is their consuming passion. It isn’t what normal Americans see as civil disobedience. It is riot and destruction. It is hatred, not an attempt at rational discourse. They want NYC to be like Chicago in 1968.

Why is it that the “peaceful” left has in its midst such raving lunatics–and not only tolerates but celebrates them?

  1. Yhe only way NYC will be like Chacago in ’68 is if the cops riot too, and are given a “shoot to maim” order. Every seems to forget that the protests in Chicago were MOSTLY non-violent (note that operative word “mostly” : meaning not all) until the cops went ape-shit too. I think New Yorks finest will do just fine in seperating the violent protestors from the peaceful ones.

Oh and let me add this, the horseshit about “first amendment zones” at BOTH conventions really hacks me off!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Guess what I got to see today Bunker! I was riding my bike from the West Side around 6:30pm and I see four (4) news choppers hovering over Times Square. Oh, great. I am going into work and there is something going down…Something bad. Well, there are cops everywhere and tourists in a panic, but I go ahead into work and do my job. Nobody seems to knows anything. No google either.

I leave around 10:00 and the news finally comes on and proclaims: “Bomb goes off in Times Square!” Start to panic…now.

I try to get home (I contemplate riding my bike back to Brooklyn), but the Times Square Subway station is still closed. I get home and check the news…and I find this:

Fireworks Cause Times Square Subway Explosion

    POSTED: 10:08 pm EDT July 19, 2004
NEW YORK — An explosion forced the evacuation of one of the city’s busiest subway stations Monday.

Detectives said the explosion was caused by a bag full of fireworks.

The blast injured a police officer and caused gridlock in Times Square. Under ground, train service was disrupted. Meanwhile, traffic above ground was at a near standstill.

Now do you see why I don’t want this convention here? We shut down Times Square for some fireworks? At this rate it won’t take much for this to turn into Chicago in ’68…But it won’t be the Lefts fault. It will be the people who caused Panic. When are we scraping that stupid color coded system?

  4. I don’t blame you for being upset about the convention in NYC. I wouldn’t want it in my town, either. What these idiots will do in this environment is like screaming “FIRE” in crowded theater. People are already on edge about such things happening.

Of course, that’s exactly what these groups are looking for: create panic. It is the definition of terrorism. Chicago was the defining moment for Tom Hayden and the SDS. There are folks out there who see themselves as the next TH.

As for “First Amendment Zones,” I haven’t seen anything about them. In light of all that’s going on, it makes things much easier for the police to deal with, and disrupts normal folks going about their business (like rfidtag) much less. Maybe you also want the convention, and everyone else in NYC, disrupted?

It’s a political convention. Crybabies don’t feel like they’re being heard. Yes, they are. But people don’t want to listen to the noise any more. They have nothing new to say, but they believe people would agree with them if only we would all just listen. Some don’t care whether we hear them or not, they just want to have a giant party and be the center of attention. And they will be. And things will go on from there. If they really want to have an impact, they need to get involved in local politics and run for office themselves.

By the way, I heard yesterday that there will also be about 15,000 media types in NYC to cover a convention of about 5000 delegates, just like in Boston. They should simply distribute notebooks and cameras to the delegates and save a few bucks.
