I’ve watched his show the last two nights, and think I may become a regular viewer. The audience is involved, and gives him grief when he heeds it. His self-esteem is high enough he can take it.
Last night he had Morgan Spurlock on to talk about his film, Super Size Me. Spurlock wrote, directed, and starred in this documentary of his month-long diet of nothing but fast food.
He gained over 40 pounds, and his doctors were concerned for his life a couple of times during the month. One of the most interesting things was that he said the diet affected his mental health as well. After only about a week he had difficulty remembering things and thinking clearly.
Miller asked him what conclusions he could draw, and Spurlock thought fast food restaurants should do more to warn customers that eating too much of their food could endanger their health. Miller took exception and gave the money line of the night, equating that sentiment to the same voiced about smoking: “If you say you don’t know smoking is dangerous, you’re lying through the hole in your trachea.”
True enough. That film is getting a lot of attention this month, and each time I hear another glowing review I just wonder why it’s a big deal that this guy has documented something that everybody knew already.
It’s probably funny to watch just for smart-alec value, but that’s not nearly enough to make it an “important” film, is it?
The “hole in your trachea” line sure is funny, though.

I love Miller. That line reminds me a little of some stuff on Denis Leary’s CD ‘No Cure for Cancer.” Very funny, adult, totally NON-PC stuff, with one bit about ‘Tracheotomy Man’ and talking to a drive-thru speaker with a voice box that always has me in convulsions/tears. Rated R for language, I would imagine.

Miller is definitely worth watching – I just hope the show survives, unlike so many other talk-fests and CNBC attempts.
