Thoughts on an Election

Filed under: Politics — Bunker @ 4:40 am

I was a bit concerned yesterday when I heard something about a landslide for Kerry. Bogey and I discussed potential outcomes based on who would win. He is of the impression that it is not any more significant this year than any other, and we’ll muddle through regardless. I agree that we would muddle through. Kerry would be little different from Carter.

But there are substantial international issues where the two men would handle things quite differently. To me, that is the driving force people should consider. Other nations will now have to rethink their own policies if Dubya’s lead does, in fact, hold up. The obstructionism we’ve dealt with can continue, but the obstructionists are the ones who will suffer from it.

The UN is a prime actor in all this. Bill Clinton apparently wants to replace Kofi, and I believe he would be an asset. But not just yet. The UN is rocked on its heels right now, and needs a good housecleaning. They will continue to become more irrelevant unless there is a strong leader in place who has integrity.

I want to recommend Colin Powell.

Almost Done

Okay. I’m almost there. Last night I took out my copy of HTML for the World Wide Web and started reading the style sheet section again. I bought this book about a year ago when I first started up, but it makes much more sense, now.

At least I have the semblance of a scheme in place. I thought some of the issues were with the changeover from the old host, but I named my new style sheet with some spaces, and UNIX doesn’t like spaces in file names. I forgot.

The links within the post area are still showing up white. I can’t discern why, but Bogey will help me solve the problem tonight. Links are there, but you have to hover the cursor to see them. Kinda like being on a scavenger hunt!

I’ve avoided any newscasts or political discussions today. I’m not interested. I’ll find out in the morning. And what a relief it will be.

Tomorrow

Filed under: Politics — Bunker @ 7:51 pm

I wish I had something profound to offer in anticipation of the election tomorrow. I don’t. What I keep thinking of is election night 2000. And the days that followed.

The DNC have never forgiven Dubya for winning that election. And their disappointment grew into hatred when he took charge after 9/11. It was as if they were holding onto a lifeline in December 2000, and by the same time next year were seeing it pulled through their fingers no matter how hard they tried to hold on.

They are close to the end of their rope. And they seem to know that.

I expect the DNC to do everything they can to destroy what is left of the electoral process. They got a taste last time, and found many Americans were willing to let them get away with it. They will go to at least another level this year.

Regardless of outcome tomorrow, we need to cleanse all votor rolls and re-register every eligible person. And we need to eliminate the process of having voter registration by proxy, allowing organizations to handle what should be one of the few tasks government does. When voting laws were first established, people knew nothing of photographs, let alone photo ID. Identification must be presented when registering, and again when voting. These are not difficult. They are essential.

Almost there

As you can see, I’m still working on it. I’ve got TopStyle but haven’t figured out how to run a php template through the viewer. So, I upload the CSS and/or template and test. That’s what you may have seen.

Also, my DNS hadn’t migrated (it may have now, according to whois), so I haven’t been sure about propogation.

Along with trying to learn LabView, relearn C++, and handling the standard functions at work, this computer crap has about done me in!
