Still in 9/10 Denial

Filed under: Media — Bunker @ 2:13 pm

Michelle Malkin exposes the lie by Paul Krugman that Ashcroft’s Justice Department hasn’t convicted any terrorists since 9/11. Krugman says this shows Ashcroft is a terrible Attorney General.

If the only measure of success in this war against Islamicists is the number of them we convict, we haven’t learned anything.

How about the number of them we’ve killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the number still being held where they can do us no harm?

Where is Dan?

Filed under: Media — Bunker @ 5:27 am

I wasn’t going to comment on Kerry’s murdering of a Canada Goose yesterday, but it brought to mind something Dan Rather did about 30 years ago, very much a Michael Moore production.

It was called Guns of Autumn, and yesterday’s hunt was just like the most sympathetic segment of that “documentary.”

Hunters have buddies, especially bird hunters. Where were Kerry’s?

New Media Paradigm

Filed under: Media — Bunker @ 1:40 pm

Alan Nelson was invited to speak to the AP Managing Editors and educated them to the potential for the use of blogs as associates in reporting and commenting on news. He really covered everything quite well, and I hope they paid attention and take his suggestions to heart.

What really had an impact on my thoughts regarding newspapers and television news was the opportunity for local outlets if they grasp the significance. No longer do they need to “waste space” in international covering issues.

Local newspapers, in particular, waste far too much front-page space on national and international topics. Most local newspapers rely on feeds from a news agency like AP and do nothing but cut and paste the story. That information is readily available, and already accessed by folks who care, through such outlets as national news shows, both network and cable, or on the internet. The local television stations also collect and regurgitate stories. A lot less time could be spent on these, or expansion of a story with a local tie-in.

The changes in information access over the last decade are still alien to many in the local news business. Sites like Command Post can provide them access to all the national and international news they need.

So where is the value for the newsroom of the future?

It might be in doing little to no national or international coverage

Fair and Balanced

Filed under: Media — Bunker @ 8:50 am

Which news network would you say is actually fair and balanced? We all know that FoxNews claims to be. Of course, so do the others. Recent happenings at CBS and ABC put that lie to the test, and they failed.

Another indicator might be who gets the political donations from people who work at those networks. WorldNetDaily has some research to share:

NBC’s records were similar. Employees of the network spread their money a bit wider, including gifts to Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Christopher Dodd, D-Conn. The list of employees included producers, attorneys on-air hosts, writers and executives. NBC’s contributions totaled $146,585, none of which went to Bush.

Totaling $25,383, a search of Fox News’ contributions turned up donations to Bush and the National Republican Senatorial Committee, along with contributions to Howard Dean and the left-wing Emily’s List. Kerry, Gephardt and Wesley Clark also showed up on the list. Of the $25,383 total, $4,930 went to Republicans candidates or committees.

It must be a Rove plan. They’re donating to Democrats to hide the fact that they’re part of the VRWC.

Censorship!

Filed under: Media — Bunker @ 1:20 pm

Gosh, I seem to remember some groups claiming that the Dixie Chicks and Linda Ronstadt were victims of censorship. Now that someone wants to air Stolen Honor, many of the same folks are advocating a boycott and have even set up a web site to build support.

Talk about commitment to ideals!

Anniversary

Filed under: Media — Bunker @ 9:44 am

When I watch television news, I watch FOXNews. They have now reached the 8-year point in their history. And it has been some run. As Neil Cavuto writes:

Our only saving grace was our only singular saving philosophy: News, fair and balanced.

People once laughed at that tag line. Little did they know it would tag quite a line and start a revolution among a nation of viewers sick of news being spoon-fed them and open to a news channel respectful of them.

I’ve written emails to various of the FoxNews Team–Neil Cavuto, Brit Hume, Mara Liasson, Juan Williams, Bill O’Reilly–and all but one have responded. I’ll let you guess which one.

They care, about the news and about Americans. I don’t get that same sense from the other major networks. I think MSNBC comes closer to being like FoxNews than any of the others–attempting to present the news in a factual, interesting way. They just don’t have quite the quality of people that FNC has.

Happy Birthday.

It isn’t bias

Filed under: Media — Bunker @ 7:34 am

Power Line calls it bias.

With Dan Rather and Mary Mapes doing their best to unseat Bush, CNN keeping Carville and Begala on the air, and now ABC News’ Political Director Mark Halperin rallying the troops around Kerry, it is far more than simple bias.

It is power.

We’ve already seen how frightened they are over a bunch of folks sitting around their living rooms dissecting every report MSM
