Taranto points out this from the ACLU web site:
It is probably no accident that freedom of speech is the first freedom mentioned in the First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The Constitution’s framers believed that freedom of inquiry and liberty of expression were the hallmarks of a democratic society.
Now read the real thing:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Any doubt in your mind, now?
Why don’t some of these parents sue the ACLU for depriving their children the right to express their religion freely? The stated goal of the founder of the ACLU was to end capitalism in America, and establish a communistic society in its place! And we just keep turning our back on those crooks!

That’s part of the irony. How do you sue the ACLU? And there are some people who are beginning to fight back. The ACLU looks for situations where they can get someone to back down. School districts are at risk because few have the money to fight a lengthy court battle. They are the prime targets for that reason.
