Oh, by the way…

Bogey, my brilliant son-in-law, is responsible for straightening out the bowl of spaghetti code I sent him to provide you readers with the visual feast that greets your tired eyes.

He does this for a living, and did in an hour what I tried to do for three days.

Need great web design? Check his link over on the left, or visit Zzang.

I am Bunker Mulligan, and I approved this message.

Class

John Kerry has the opportunity to be both the statesman and uniter he has claimed to be. Rather than a replay of Florida 2000 in Ohio, he could concede.

I had hoped for a large Bush win to try and end the vehement bickering. It didn’t happen. Kerry can make a move right now that would go a long way toward doing that. He would also be setting himself up for another run in four years.

I don’t think he has the class. And becoming President is the only thing he’s ever really wanted in life.

Almost Done

Filed under: General — Bunker @ 1:08 pm

Okay. I’m almost there. Last night I took out my copy of HTML for the World Wide Web and started reading the style sheet section again. I bought this book about a year ago when I first started up, but it makes much more sense, now.

At least I have the semblance of a scheme in place. I thought some of the issues were with the changeover from the old host, but I named my new style sheet with some spaces, and UNIX doesn’t like spaces in file names. I forgot.

The links within the post area are still showing up white. I can’t discern why, but Bogey will help me solve the problem tonight. Links are there, but you have to hover the cursor to see them. Kinda like being on a scavenger hunt!

I’ve avoided any newscasts or political discussions today. I’m not interested. I’ll find out in the morning. And what a relief it will be.

Almost there

Filed under: General — Bunker @ 5:48 pm

As you can see, I’m still working on it. I’ve got TopStyle but haven’t figured out how to run a php template through the viewer. So, I upload the CSS and/or template and test. That’s what you may have seen.

Also, my DNS hadn’t migrated (it may have now, according to whois), so I haven’t been sure about propogation.

Along with trying to learn LabView, relearn C++, and handling the standard functions at work, this computer crap has about done me in!

Apologies

Filed under: General — Bunker @ 4:47 pm

As you can see, if you’ve been checking this site, I’ve moved over to WordPress and am having some difficulty.

I intended to get it all done this weekend, but it’s kicking my butt! The tags in WP work a bit differently than those in MT, and I have to load the template and CSS file on the server to check them because WP builds the HTML file you see each time it’s called. My CSS and HTML software either don’t have the capability to deal with it, or I don’t yet know how to use them well enough.

The title for a post in WP is, by design, a hypertext anchor. I want to keep the look I got here, but haven’t figured it out. I also cannot get my footer to stay put, nad I may simply discard it.

Cold Fury

Mike, at Cold Fury, offers My case for Bush. It is an absolutely cogent explanation, one that does service to the blogosphere.

No wonder MSM are scared. People like Mike are showing them up daily.

Blog posts

Chrenkoff has asked, “Does anyone actually read blogs?”

Why he asks is that he gets many view times of 0:00 and that seems odd. His commenters have lots of responses and possible answers, but none, including me, really know why that is. I know I see the same thing here, yet the average visit time is about two minutes. Seems odd, does it not?

Actually, I wonder about many of these things that get tracked. Another example is the Ecosystem. I don’t really know what kind of measure it really is for the popularity of a site. It tracks links from other sites. Someone like Glenn Reynolds doesn’t get a hit from me there unless I link to his site in a post because I access InstaPundit through a bookmark. Same with PowerLine and others. On the other hand, revolving blogrolls as on Blogs for Bush create a new link any time a new post is generated. I’ve seen my own go from Marsupial to Mammal and back in the space of 24 hours.

In Arthur’s case, as well as that of other more popular blogs, is the number of comments they get. I think that’s probably the most reliable indicator of traffic.
